Focusing and Complex Developmental Trauma

Focusing, like everything, is different when you have a history of complex developmental trauma (CDT). This is a space to explore and navigate the uniqueness of that inner complexity, how we use focusing to help us emerge, more and more, from suffering, and even find joy in our complexity. Scroll down to sign up (it says Select Class, but these are not classes, they are lightly facilitated groups - I just can’t figure out how to change the text…yet).

This is a group for focusers with a personal history of complex developmental trauma. This is not a group for sharing stories about our childhoods and traumatic experiences, but rather a place to specifically discuss how Focusing supports (or can support) emergence/recovery from complex developmental trauma, how to navigate challenges that arise in our focusing experiences and focusing partnerships, and what emergence from complex trauma using focusing actually looks like/means for us.

Themes for our sessions include:

  • Bringing Awareness Inward: Finding (or not) safety in the body

  • Settling In: Verbal and nonverbal ways to describe and acknowledge; Too many/ too much; First encounters with shame and danger (Jul 16)

  • Inner Relating with CDT - Too close, too far away; Overwhelm and Dissociation (Aug 5/ Aug 6)

  • When Feeling Good Isn't Safe: Navigating and Utilizing Enjoyable/ Neutral Aspects of Self in Presence (Aug 20/ Aug 21)

  • Habits and Patterns in Our Inner Experience; Internalized Relational Experiences

  • Something in Me: Presence Language and When It "Doesn't Work"; Other Approaches to Unmerging

  • Activation, Drift and Return; Getting Lost and Coming Back

  • Agenda vs. Contact: How Do We Notice When We Aren't Here
